Staff registers

Ernest Loraine Watt

A large, bound book exists of early staff members of Malton Grammar School 1911 onwards.

The first entry in the school staff register gives details for its first headmaster, Ernest Loraine Watt.  In summary, he was born in Surrey, became Headmaster after 7 years of teaching, at the age of 32. He was a Classics scholar of Cambridge Trinity Hall.

Eleanor Atkin

Later in the register, Eleanor Atkin appears. As a pupil, she is the first entry in the pupil register, and returns as a teacher in January 1921, having had two other teaching posts in Leeds - close to where I grew up - at Hunslet Carr, Bewerley Street - and a third in Huttons Ambo.
