ARCHIVE PAGE: this website is gradually being updated from May 2022
OFSTED - the Office for Standards in Education - first visited the school in 1996 for a intense week of inspection of all aspects, resulting in a 40 page report being published. Since then many variations on the style of inspection, the level of intensity, and the method of reporting outcomes, have taken place.
Prior to the creation of OFSTED, schools were inspected by HMI - Her Majesty's Inspectors for Schools. I have only found one report resulting from these inspections, in 1960.
Annual Head's Reports to the PTA 1975 - 1988
These appear to have been given by the Headteacher, John Gresswell, in a speech to the PTA each year. The scripts are 7 - 8 pages of foolscap. Summaries of each speech are given below.
John Gresswell prepared a report for governors on the first term of Malton School. At the time he was acting head, following Philip Taylor's untimely death, before being appointed as headteacher in 1972.
