Michael noted the memorial to Alex Joannidis, who he remembers as "a truly fantastic teacher". Not related to teacher Melvyn Crawshaw, but remembers him as a form teacher and geometrical drawing teacher.

Kitty continues to raise money for charity through ever-more amazing challenges. This time she went on a mile long zip-wire, reaching speeds of 100mph, and in the process raised £3160 for Multiple Sclerosis Research. It might be worth pointing out that Kitty was at Malton School from 1943 to 1948, so that makes her ... well, not a youngster! 82?

M Rafik emailed on 24 Nov 2014. M Rafik (sorry, I do not know his full name) was an old schoolfriend of Alex Joannidis, back in Alexandria, Egypt, in the 1950s. He was pleased to see the additions to the site in memory of Alex, some of which he provided. He tells me that he has informed other classmates of the website, and a number have also viewed the tributes.

Gillian Neufield was in touch (via a friend) 19 Nov 2014. Gillian lives in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, but spends a month in Malton each year at her old house on Middlecave Road. She was in the sixth form at Malton in 1949 - 51. She doesn't use the internet, but if anyone would like to get in touch, please let me know and I will arrange contact.

Tony sent 8 photos from his time at Malton Grammar School in the early 1960s. A production of Androcles and the Lion, a trip to Malham, 1963-4 prefects, and a 1962 speech day. Tony has kindly donated the pictures to the school archive.

Wendy asked for a 1980 photo please. Sorry Wendy - 1980s are very scarce, at least in my collection. Does anyone have a 1980 1st year photo with Wendy on it? I have put 6 pictures from the 1980s on, of outdoor pursuits trips with Kieth Williams - the closest I could find.

Dave tells me that in addition to being in the Yorkshire Life 1963 photo receiving a prize, he is blowing his own trumpet in the orchestra, and sat on the front row of the audience.

Lizzie Stallybrass (now Hunt) emailed in October 2014
Lizzie provided a number of names for the photos of the Year 13 A level prom at the Feathers, Helmsley, in 2003 - Lizzie was one of the yeargroup. Lizzie is now down in Islington.

Helen Williams (nee Dawson) filled in a Friends form and emailed on 2 October 2014 I couldn't find her on a picture, but she tells me she is playing the violin in the orchestra on the 2nd page of the 1970s gallery, and in front of the minibus on the 3rd.

Margaret Blunt, daughter of Audrey Howarth, emailed on 9 October 2014 Margaret got in touch to tell me that her mother died earlier this year, and that her family will be holding a memorial service later this month. Audrey Howarth, who married to become Audrey Thormpson, taught English, history and French at Malton Grammar School 1948 - 1953. She was also involved with the girl guides at the school. See the announcement in the progress log to the left.

Meeting with Richard Young 28 September 2014 Remarkably I met Dick Young on a visit to Lindisfarne Castle on Sunday. We were both (independently) spending a couple of days up in Northumberland on a short break. Although we live a couple of miles apart we seldom bump into each other in the Pickering area.

Greta Clowes (nee Labistour) wrote in September 2013 Greta wrote a year ago with memories of her time at Malton Grammar School when she was evacuated from Hull during World War II. I cam across the letter today, so I have finally uploaded it to the site, as promised.

Howard emailed to point out that a photo I had as 1954 Twelfth Night in Rosie Taylor's collection, is in fact 1959 As You Like It. All these corrections are much appreciated - before 1993 I must rely on people's recollection and information to try and make this site a true and correct record.

Alex got in touch to add a name to Tony Kirby's list for the 1958 Form II photo, in the 1958 album recently posted - the name being Robin Tuke, who lived at Ampleforth. Alex is in the form II picture as well.

Stephen Mills emailed having just found the website. He confirms it is him in the 2002 Christmas pictures, complete with tinsel tie. He also mentioned that some of the links didn't work on the Christmas shows page - I checked and it is because I haven't completed the pages. I have put some temporary pages in for now, and will upload more of the pictures in the coming weeks.

Tony emailed a list of the prefects in 1962, as pictured in Rosie Taylor's collection. He thinks it must have been taken in September or October of the year, as Patrick Youdan is featured, who died in November of the year.

Richard emailed to ask about copies of photographs from 1971 Malton Grammar School. There is a full album from the final year of the Grammar School which is in the school archive. I have uploaded the 23 photos in the 1970s photo gallery. Hopefully Richard and others may be able to add some names and other details to them.

Matthew sent 7 photos from 1981-2 . These are colour snaps, probably taken by Matthew. Two are on the school field, and five are from an interesting looking Sixth Form fancy dress party, where cross-dressing seems to have been the theme. He provides some names, but thre are question marks to fill in if anyone can oblige.

Phil sent a 1962 September group photo, framed and clearly part of a professional photographer's portfolio. He thinks the group is probably Form V, or Form VI. They are with Mr Bower. Phil gives names for a number of those in the photo - Michael Bogue, Clive Duggleby, Susan Corner, Philip Lonsdale, Bernadette Holt, Richard Young, Penny Howarth, Rosie Taylor, Pam Inman, Jackie Coulthard, Josie, Sheila Raines. Can anyone fill in the missing names?

Chris, now 75, living in Cheshire, is the 4x removed grandson of the Reverend Harry Garrett, who was the Headmaster of Malton Grammar School 1866-1904. He purchased The History of Malton School 1547-2006, and mentions that his granddaughter, Sophie Hadwin, is about to start teaching at Norton Primary School. This brings something of a circular connection for the family. The letter prompted me to add a list of the staff of Malton Grammar School, 1547 - 1904, indeed all staff lists, to the site.

Howard sent a few corrections and additions to the 1955 Form III picture, and the 1955 football team. 'David Oldfield [ from Hovingham and known as 'Spadge' for some reason]; EDWIN Prest [his brother still? [2011] drives the Terrington school bus] ... Aurea Craggs [from Habton], ... Elizabeth Bowman [from Norton] ... Brenda North [from Hovingham]. ... Robert SARGISON is another corrected name and he can also be seen sitting on the second row [with Mother] of the sports day photograph.

Mary provided some names for the 1962 Form 1 Alpha and 1965 Mrs Williams Form 4A photos. She remembers that Mrs Williams kept her group for two years because they 'were such a good class'! Also in the picture: Christine Pirie was known as Poppy to her friends, which carried on from junior school because she had a red and green hat and coat outfit. Michael Geldard became head boy. Mary promises more in the future, when she sorts out some of her photo boxes.

Remarkably Howard realised that when he worked at Leeds General Infirmary back in the late 1960s, he worked with my brother Michael and his wife Valerie. He had not made the connection with the Fearnley's until this week. A photo of an evening at Farnley Hall in 1970 confirms the idea - Howard is performing some routine, and my brother is sat in the audience behind him. I love coincidences.

Howard also sent a list of attendees at the recent Malton Grammar School reunion, and a brief description.

Pat had attended last week's reunion at The Lodge in Malton, and tells me that 'For the first time five girls of the year 1949 were there. We were Margaret (Ward) Gibson, Rita (Hudson) Postill, Jill (Hicks) Roe, Ann (Clark) ???? and Pat (Pallister) Gorringe. The first time I have seen Rita, Jill and Ann since we left in 1956.' Good to hear that rekindling of such memories still go on at the reunions. I have added Pat's 1950s pictures to the site. She also told me that her brother, Terry, had died last April (2013). Terry had written some detailed memories of Malton Senior School back in 2003. I have now included these in the Memories pages of this site.

Ed left in 2009. He asked the same question a number of others have asked - tried to get in touch with teachers via Facebook, but never got replies. I think teachers of necessity have to be cautious about their privacy, and their contact with young people, so please don't be offended if they don't reply to friends requests. I never did when I was still teaching, only after I retired. If you want to pass messages on, try it through this site and I will do my best. Ed is currently running two IT businesses in Hull.

Website launch 22/4/14

Decided the time was right to make the website public. Sent off emails to everyone on the old Maltonians database list (2008). About 80% came back undeliverable, but a few did elicit replies. My thanks to Dave Evans, Alan Burns, Brian Windsor, Jason Langley, Michael Willis, Jill Swailes, Simon Holden, Sam Davies for quick responses and positive replies.

She asks for help in locating the original owner of what she describes as a Malton High School ring from 1969. It was amongst her aunt's possessions and it has the initials TEM inscribed on it. As her aunt lived in Queens, New York, I wonder if the connection is with the other Malton School in the world - in Mississauga, Ontario? Any ideas anyone?

Chris bought a copy of A History of Malton School, and found a picture of his Dad on page 40, running in the 220 yards race. He raises some doubt about the picture in the archive, which Brian Goforth had previously told me (in 2003) that it was him and 'Anderson'. Can anyone help clear up the confusion?
