Sports Days
In earlier days sports days appear to have combined standard athletics races with more light-hearted events, such as the slow bicycle race, the chariot race and the tug of war.
In latter days it was all athletics disciplines, and took place towards the end of term in July, so only Years 7 to 10 competed, Years 11 and 13 having left. Year 12 did the marshalling, alongside teaching staff. It was organised by head of Sixth Form Dave Ewing until 2008. Individual Sports Day Records have been kept since 1974, and a list of overall Sports Day winners goes back to 1941.
There is a pictorial index to Sports Days from 1938 to 2009.
Sports teams
There are pictures of Boys sports teams and girls sports teams from 1911 to 2007.

Tennis tournament
A popular annual fixture, played in the final weeks of the summer term. More recently it was open to students Year 7 to 10. I believe there was a handicap system in operation where students started games on different points. In earlier years Year 12 students were part of the competition. I think this ceased when AS exams arrived in 2001.
As well as pictures of tennis teams, to be found on the boys teams and girls teams pages, there are some of tennis action in 2002, and of the tennis tournament winners 2011 - 2015, alongside a list of winners from 1999 - 2015.
